Director - Category Management (Beauty)


Roles and Responsibilities

Business strategy

  • Develop the business model as we scale Beauty: Go deep, understand where opportunities are and create a viable business model to service the opportunities
  • Know the BPC market: Subject Matter Expert who is well versed across multiple categories of Beauty & Personal care such as Makeup, Skincare, Hair, Bath & Body and fully conversant with trends in an ever-changing landscape, find opportunities and prioritize based on size, internal capabilities, etc
  • Know the customer: Detailed understanding of how consumers buy beauty & personal care and ability to use that to create strong new customer insights to drive business growth
  • Know the competition: A 360 view of the entire landscape across Brands, Beauty Conglomerates, BPC Retailers both Global and National, and Understanding of on-line and off-line players. React as and when necessary in an appropriate manner
  • Influence the leadership: Convert strategies into action by liaising with cross-functional leadership and drive the changes required. Having the critical ability to put together thoughts on presentations & documents and run them with leadership to seek sponsorship & alignment
  • Think big - unlock value for consumers, Myntra Jabong and vendor partners

Merchandising and Sales Strategy

  • Own pricing strategy based on market potential, consumer insights, margins or competitive signals
  • Deep understanding of Brands Mix and how to break them down into 4P/6Ps to help take impactful decisions on merchandising and pricing
  • Identify the growth areas and new business scope within the existing category
  • Ability to identify & create strategic selection roadmaps keeping the consumer at the heart of things -Expand selection, enable its discovery and ensure conversion
  • Appreciation of product/tech and how it is being shaped up globally wrt beauty and personal care

Relationship Management

  • Lead the team to identify strategic partners and negotiate better terms of trade
  • Forge deep strategic relationships with Leadership levels across brands & vendor communities
  • Create a comprehensive Vendor management strategy and governance framework
  • Put in processes & metrics to scale the business
  • Use technology to scale operations and expand selection
  • Work with Supply Chain teams to ensure product availability

Collaborative Partnership

  • Liaise with cross functional team members (Revenue/Growth/ Supply Chain and  Marketing)

People leadership

  • Build, retain and groom a strong team to deliver across functions
  • Set goals, define KPIs and ensure team tracks effectively towards goals

Qualifications& Experience

  • Subject Matter Expert on multiple key categories of BPC – Makeup, Skincare, Haircare, Bath & Body
  • Worked across execution roles such as sales, customer marketing, trade marketing as well as Brand Management roles in Beauty or FMCG space ( Personal Care only)
  • Exceptional analytical & problem solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to make data- backed decisions
  • Extremely entrepreneurial in his/her approach in trying to scale small categories/opportunities
  • Willingness to experiment and scale opportunities and move swiftly across multiple problem statements through the day
  • Self-directed focus and ability to prioritize within an ambiguous environment
  • Ability to execute and follow through on high-quality output, with limited oversight
  • Strong Story-telling abilities that can help excite and align Leadership & cross functional teams towards common priorities
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and influence/rally/align them towards a common org/business goal
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to lead large sized teams spanning multiple levels of work
